USA Beats Algeria Late to Advance

Landon Donovan's GoalLandon Donovan was money again as his goal during injury time advances the United States to round 16 at the World Cup. With London shutting out Slovenia 1-0, USA was forced to win in order to advance. Landon Donovan’s late heroics and 1-0 win over Algeria puts USA at the top of their group at the World Cup for the first time since 1930, leading Group C with five points. England also moves on with five points, but with a fewer goal differential after their 1-0 win over Slovenia at Port Elizabeth.

Donovan slotted in the rebound after Algeria goalkeeper Rais Bolhi had stopped Clint Dempsey’s shot from close range in the first minute of injury time. It was his fourth World Cup goal, equaling Bert Patenaude’s U.S. record.

“I’m shocked. I’m so proud of our guys. Unbelievable,” Donovan said. “Clint made a good run in the middle, the ball fell to me …. time kind of stopped. You can’t miss from there.”

Both teams had chances but failed to score during regulation time. Dempsey’s goal was disallowed for offside in the first half and hit the post in the second. TV replays appeared to show Dempsey to be onside Read the rest of this entry »

Purple Haze4.2% – Purple Haze Wheat – Abita Springs LA
Purple Haze is a crisp, American style wheat beer with raspberry puree added after filtration. Therefore, you may see raspberry pulp in the beer. The raspberries provide the lager with a subtle purple coloration and haze, a fruity aroma, and a tartly sweet taste.

This beer is best served with salads or light fruit desserts, such as soufflés or chiffon cakes. Many people enjoy it with chocolate desserts. Purple Haze pairs well with certain cheeses, such as ripened Brie or any dessert made with Mascarpone. It’s also great paired with entrees prepared with fruit, especially citrus. Consider enjoying Purple Haze alone at the end of your meal as dessert.

The Twisted Limbs

Twisted Limbs CD

The Twisted Limbs were founded in a cramped basement studio apartment in Westwood, while Ryan Groves and Ben Shea were attending UCLA. They were originally called “Big Pianist and the G-Strings… and Ben”, and played their very first show in front of 5,000 people at the UCLA talent show Spring Sing. The show coordinators decided to close up the talent show with Big Pianist and the G-Strings… and Ben’s powerful piano-centered Rock. The whole crowd was on their feet by the end of the song, screaming for more.Twisted Limbs Band

Since then, the band has a new name as well as a few different members. The original bassist, Trey Shelton, and the guitarist, Blake Gearheard, moved away to pursue other ventures. Luckily, a mutual friend of Ben and Ryan’s, Charles Brandick, was a bassist phenom and grooved well with them both. The Twisted Limbs was born.

Twisted Limbs FansThe Twisted Limbs released their debut album Cherry in September of 2009. One of the musicians who laid down some sax tracks on the album, Eric Hargett ended up digging the vibe of  The Twisted Limbs, and joined the band late in the game. Be sure to check out Ryan Groves Lead Vocals, Guitar & Keyboard, Charles, Brandick Bass & Backup Vocals, Ben Shea on Drums & Eric Hargett on the Sax.

You can catch one of their shows around Los Angeles or visit The Twisted Limbs Website. May 3rds lineup includes Mighty Kate, Wires In The Wall, Freakish Blue, The Twisted Limbs, see you there!

Carlsberg beer strike over new “lunch beer policy”

Carlsberg Beer COPENHAGEN, AP – A mass of Carlsberg workers walked off their jobs in protest Thursday after Carsberg, a Danish brewer, tightened laid-back rules on workplace drinking. According to a Carlsberg spokesman, beer coolers were also removed from work sites.

This obviouslly has not settled well for warehouse and production workers in Denmark who are now rebelling against the company’s new alcohol policy. It allows them to drink beer only during lunch hours in the canteen. Prior to this, workers could help themselves to Carlsberg beer throughout the day from coolers placed around the work sites.

The only restriction accoding to company spokesman Jens Bekke was.. Read the rest of this entry »

BrewDog’s “Sink the Bismark!” is World’s Strongest Beer

sink the bismark

Sink The Bismark

The crafty and competitive guys at Scottish brewery BrewDog has released a beer that currently stands as the world’s strongest beer. Sink the Bismarck! is a quadruple IPA containing four times the hops, four times the bitterness and frozen four times to create the staggering 41% ABV. To put it simply, Sink the Bismarck!’s 41% ABV makes it more alcoholic than whiskey or vodka. Because of this, BrewDog has explained that the beer should be consumed responsibly, “in spirit-sized measures.” Ha!

Sink The Bismark! is their latest beer to claim this title as last year in 2009, they set the same record with their 32% ABV beer, Tactical Nuclear Penguin. Rival German brewery Schorschbräu however, reclaimed the beer potency title with increasing their Schorschbock beer ABV from 31% ABV to 40% ABV. This prompted Brewdog to brew this ridiculous beer and counterattack known as Sink The Bismark!.

Quoted about Sink The Bismark, “This is IPA amplified, the most evocative style of the craft beer resistance with the volume cranked off the scale. Kettle hopped, dry hopped then freeze hopped for a deep fruit, resinous and spicy aroma. A full out attack on your Read the rest of this entry »
