2010 Manhattan Beach Six-Man Volleyball Tournament
Started in 1964, this event was named after Charlie Saikley the “Godfather of Beach Volleyball” who passed away in 2005.
This party/tournament which spans basically all weekend, draws thousands of partiers and amateur and professional volleyball players. Pictures cannot do this event/weekend justice and it’s not hard to argue that this is one of if not the best weekend of summer! This year, Six-Man is the last weekend in July so the big day will be Saturday July 31st while the championship will held on Sunday August 1st.

Despite all the discussion about the city cracking down heavily on the event this year, it will still go on and will still be a raging time. Just be smart! To get yourself ready, make sure to hit up “Club Vons” on Manhattan Beach Blvd to stock up on weekend necessities, this place is packed all weekend with healthy amounts of babes and booze.

Another spot that should be frequented all weekend is Manhattan Pizzeria. This pizza joint has awesome pizza, great deals on pitchers of beer and is going to be busy all weekend for good reason. The two words “large pepperoni” will become synonymous to the tunes of “Sweet Caroline” and “Magnum P.I.” all weekend. They are located across from Shellback Tavern down at the end of

Shellback Tavern
MB Blvd and right by the pier with the Six-Man volleyball courts. Renamed in 1973 to Shellback Tavern, this bar is the classic corner-local-surfer bar that reminds you of old Manhattan. Like MB Pizza and Beaches (another great bar during the day) across the street, Shellback is a must visit during the Six-Man weekend. Have fun this year!
2010 Official Six-Man Details
Check out some of the details below for 2010. This year is a little different than years past because of the push to make it more controllable. Aside from player entry fees being increased, there have been “significant” measures implemented again in order to try and control drinking on and around the beach. Expect enforcement to bulk their efforts this year so take an extra moment to think about how and what your packing for the beach.
Team Check-In
Teams will be allowed to check in for set up on Friday at the base of the Pier from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. All teams are to check in with the Tournament Director before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, regardless of weather.
